Requirements of Advanced Practitioners
- Rapid response systems –respond to Rapid respond call and code blue and able to provide critical care as needed
Assess the patient’s physical status, review the medical record for pertinent history /lab and prescribe treatment as they feel situation warrants.
Communicate and collaborate with attending physician
Determine if patient needs higher level of care
- Complete admissions from ED assigned by admitting physician
- Perform H&Ps
- Cross cover for the hospitalist team as needed
- Perform such other responsibilities as reasonably assigned by the chief hospitalist and within NP/PA scope of practice
Block schedule Shifts: 7a-7p, 7p- 7a
Minimum Shifts Per Month: 17
Average Daily Shift Census 18-20
Average # of Admissions (Days & Nights): 10-17; 17-22 night
Will the Hospitalists be required to take call? Yes every 10 to 12 weeks.
If yes, must on-call Hospitalist be present to admit? Yes on call is available for emergency backup if needed
Average Number of Phone Calls per Night: Varies
Number of Hospitalists on Day Shifts: 6 to 7
Night Shift :2 hospitalists. Both take admissions. 1 is the rapid response back up if needed by the RRT team(rarely)
Will the Hospitalist be required to back-up the Emergency Dept.? No
Sub Specialties Available for Consultations: There are mid-levels, hospitalists do not supervise them
ICU Involvement: No
ICU/CCU Work: Closed
Number of Beds: 775
Will the Hospitalists be the 1st Responder for Codes? Yes

Internal Medicine but Will consider FP with at least 1 year of experience as a hospitalist
Certification Requirements: BC/BE ACLS ATLS BLS & PALS

Closed medicine ICU and CCU; Intensivists are available for consultation
We have a Rapid response team under sound umbrella, and there are 2 providers are scheduled during the day and at night.
The rapid response team providers do procedures including intubation.
Hospital intensivist handles vents.
Physicians are on call every 10 to 12 weeks, however not expected to be in the hospital. They will be available only when called for emergency backup example when a colleague is sick or has an emergency or extremely high census for patients’ safety
