Emergency Room Physician Assistant/ Nurse Practitioner will provide complete care for all level 3, 4 and 5 patients and assist in the management of level 1 and 2 patients. Assist in the management of critically ill patients.
a. Obtain and document a history focused on the chief compliant, appropriate past medical history, and physical exam.
b. Order appropriate x-rays, laboratory tests, medications, and IV’s.
c. Develop discharge plans.
d. Educate patients regarding their health problems and treatments.
e. Coordinate care with the patient’s primary care physician.
f. Function as a member of the Emergency Department health care team that includes: nurses, physicians, clerical workers, lab technicians, radiology technicians, and on-call physicians.
The provider will be licensed as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in Vermont. The provider will maintain specific currency in basic life support, advanced cardiac life support, advanced trauma life support, pediatric advance life support, airway management, and general currency in the body of knowledge applicable to the patients seen in the Emergency Department. The provider will submit annual documentation of these activities. The provider will participate in ED education and quality assurance programs and assumes responsibility for CMEs. Practice guidelines will be reviewed, mutually agreed upon, and signed annually by the APRN or PA and the collaborating physician and placed on file in the work place.
