Northwestern Maine is a region dotted with small towns, including Jackman, which total about 1000 full time residents. Rural life moves at a somewhat slower pace, so you will get to know your patients as part of your broader community.
You can take advantage of the numerous recreational opportunities that bring thousands of visitors to the region: superb hunting and fishing, hiking and camping, skiing and snowmobiling, and even dog sledding! This forested area features many crystal clear streams, rivers, and lakes – including nearby Moosehead Lake, the largest in the state, surrounded by more than 300 miles of ATV and snowmobile trails. Kayaking and whitewater rafting are also popular in this pristine part of Maine. If you enjoy golf, the local courses are challenging – and include an 1880’s era course (the second oldest in New England) on scenic Mt. Kineo, accessible by ferry across Moosehead Lake!
Your children will thrive in a school where everyone knows them, and the student/teacher ratio is excellent. The local school prides itself on an expanding sports program, a focus on the arts, and a competitive math team! Look to local farms for fresh food, and some of the best maple syrup in the country.
Jackman is just 16 miles south of the border with Canada, and three hours from Quebec City. Jackman is 90 minutes north of the city of Skowhegan, and about three hours from Portland.
