St. Joseph Mercy Oakland (SJMO) has an outstanding full time opportunity for an experienced, certified and licensed Physician Assistant interested in joining a private Orthopedic Surgery practice located in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

A local Orthopedic Surgeon who specializes in sports medicine is seeking a full time experienced Physician Assistant with a strong orthopedic background.

The selected provider will be responsible for the following duties:

- Review medical clearances including lab results preoperatively for surgical patients.
- First assistant to surgeon in ambulatory surgical centers and hospital settings, approximately 20 cases per week
- Position patients at surgery
- Makes sure that proper surgical instrumentation is present at time of surgery
- Rounding on patient when required.

- Perform comprehensive and problem focused physical exam for both established and new patients. Interpret diagnostic imaging and labs as appropriate. Interpret both subjective and objective data to assign appropriate diagnosis thereby formulating appropriate treatment plan.
- Order appropriate diagnostic imaging and labs when needed. Order/prescribe appropriate medication, physical therapy and orthosis.
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including joint and bursa aspirations and injections as well as bracing and applications of casts and splints.
- Collaborate with physician in managing acute and long term medical needs of patients. Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.
- Maintain and review patient records.
- Triage patient telephone calls.
- Peer to Peer telephone calls with insurance companies as necessary to obtain authorization for both diagnostic imaging and surgery.

The selected provider will possess a strong orthopedic background and a minimum of two years' experience as a practicing physician assistant. Additional requirements include completion of an accredited physician assistant program, a current state of Michigan license and DEA.
