IHA and St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea have an excellent full-time employment opportunity for an Advanced Practice Practitioner (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) located in Chelsea, Michigan.

The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will participate in all aspects of care of assigned patient population in collaboration with the physician and other health care professionals to provide medical services including direct patient care, medical record documentation, review and follow-up care to IHA Hospital Medicine and ICU patients. The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner will operate within the standards of care and scope of practice as defined by the State of Michigan.

The schedule for this opportunity includes days, afternoons, nights, weekends and holidays at St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea. This full-time opportunity will consist of working 1,880 hours per year.

The selected APP will be responsible for:

  • Comprehensive H&P for patients, identifying preventive health measures and priorities of care within prescribed guidelines of supervising physician
  • Daily hospital rounds including completion of progress notes, discharge summaries, chart rounds and consults.
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as needed, including but not limited to, thoracentesis, paracentesis, intubation, placement of central venous catheters, placement of arterial lines, lumbar punctures, placement of dialysis catheters.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient’s clinical problems and health care needs.
  • Records physical findings, and formulates plan and prognosis based on patient’s condition; documents patient encounter appropriately in the electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Assists in the development of a treatment plan and appropriate follow-up.
  • Provides bedside support and direction during Code Blue situations and Rapid Response calls.
  • Educates patient and family regarding the diagnosis; reviews treatment plan
  • Prescribes or recommends drugs other forms of treatment such as physical therapy, inhalation therapy, or related therapeutic procedures.
  • Refers patients to Physician for consultations or to specialized health resources for treatment.

Minimum required qualifications:

  • Successful completion of an accredited NP/PA program
  • NP/PA Certification (NP's must be Acute Care certified)
  • State of Michigan License
  • Proficient in bedside ultrasonography.
  • Proficient in ventilator management.
